With improvements completed to the Route 60/91/I‑215 interchange and local roadways, RCTC has shifted its focus to enhancing mobility on the remaining sections of I‑215 in Riverside County. These improvements have been divided into two major areas:
1. The first area is a 29.25-mile section of Interstate 215 from Murrieta Hot Springs Road in Murrieta to State Route 60 in Riverside. The widening is designed to relieve traffic congestion, improve existing freeway operations and contribute to the area’s economic vitality. The first six miles of the corridor between Murrieta Hot Springs Road in Murrieta and Scott Road in Menifee were completed in February 2012.

The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), is working to widen I-215 in the Menifee and Perris areas.
Because of the timing of the funding that can be secured, RCTC divided the widening of the I-215 corridor into three projects:
2. The second area of improvements is a project to widen the section of I‑215 between Riverside and San Bernardino. This Interstate 215 Bi-County HOV Gap Closure Project is under construction. Click here for more information.
Traffic congestion continues to increase along I‑215, especially during peak morning and evening commute hours. Although these projects, unfortunately, will not relieve all of the future traffic congestion that is forecast to occur, widening I-215 will help reduce traffic delays, gasoline consumption and pollutants.
For the General Public, the I-215 widening projects will add freeway capacity, thereby reducing vehicle delays, gasoline consumption and pollutants. The future I-215 North Project will add carpool lanes, which will encourage ridesharing along this heavily travelled corridor.
For Businesses, the projects will expedite the movement of goods and services along the I-215 corridor.
Everyone will benefit from improvements in efficiency and capacity.
